Bayaguana will once again host the Isaac Ogando Athletics Invitational

The best speed athletes of the upper level, U20 and U23 will show their talents next Saturday during the II “Issac Ogando” Athletics Invitational that will take place in Bayaguana, a municipality in the province of Monte Plata.

The contest will be held from 9:00 in the morning on the Luguelín Santos track, of the sports complex that bears the name of the prominent sports leader Isaac Ogando.

Among the elite athletes who will compete are the silver medalists in the last Olympic Games in Tokyo, Marileidy Paulino, Alexander Ogando, Lidio Féliz, Anabel Medina and Luguelín Santos, in addition to fellow Olympian Yancarlos Martínez.

The details of the championship were offered by the president of the Dominican Federation of Athletics Associations (FADD), Mr. Gerardo Suero Correa.

He explained that about 250 athletes from all over the country will compete for the gold, silver and bronze medals, and the possibility of being part of the national preselection that will be chosen with a view to taking out the national team that will compete in various events between May and July. international events, including the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States.

The championship, acknowledged Suero Correa, will be carried out through the contributions derived from the Ministry of Sports, Olympic Solidarity and the program Creating Olympic Dreams (CRESO).

“Thanks to the support of these institutions, our athletes are concentrated in a camp in Bayaguana, because the running track of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center is not in a position to host a competitive level event like the one we will hold this Saturday” , recognized Suero Correa.

He added that they will compete in the modalities of 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 5,000 flat meters.

“This event will be vital for our federation because at the end of the competitions we have the coaching staff with the mission of putting together a great team that will allow us to have an excellent participation in all the international commitments that we have in the coming months, especially in the World Athletics Championships,” he explained.

He added that the multiple Olympic and world gold medalist Félix Sánchez, José Rubio and the Cuban Yassen Pérez will have the responsibility of choosing the athletes that will make up the pre-selection.
