Some surprising news is circulating from the game development world. While many new titles push for super realistic graphics, the team behind Battlefield 6 is making a different choice. They are holding back on a feature that often makes games look stunning: Ray Tracing.
Christian Buhl, the Technical Director for Battlefield 6, confirmed this decision. He told comicbook.com, as reported by PC Gamer, that the launch version of the game will not include Ray Tracing. What’s more, they currently have no plans to add it later. The reason is simple: performance. The developers want to focus entirely on making the game run as smoothly as possible. Their big goal is to create a game that plays fluidly without needing helper tech like DLSS or Frame Generation.

It’s worth remembering that Battlefield 6 didn’t offer Ray Tracing options before. Even without super realistic light and shadow reflections, the game manages to look great. Its powerful destruction effects, in particular, always impress players.
Ray Tracing, along with tools like DLSS, FSR, and Frame Generation, has become almost a standard expectation for modern games. This makes the Battlefield team’s decision quite notable, especially since earlier games in the series did feature Ray Tracing. However, if skipping this tech means more players get a better, more enjoyable game experience, then it might be a smart move in the long run.
Battlefield 6 is set to launch on October 10. Players can look forward to it on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
