Basic basket of the DR is the second cheapest in the region, according to research

The Dominican Republic continues as the second country in the region with the lowest cost in the products of the basic food basket (CBA), according to a research study recently carried out by the General Directorate of Consumer Protection of Honduras.

According to that institution that defends consumer rights, the cost of the basic food basket in the country “presents price stability in its value, since it went from RD$15,614.20 a RD$15,511.60, for a reduction of 102 weights with 60 cents, which at the exchange rate in dollars the basket has a price of $283.95 in June to $283.94 in July, maintaining stability in its value”.

The study, released this week, confirms that El Salvador maintains the cheapest basic food basket in the region with a value of 238 dollars and 71 cents, “presenting on this occasion a significant increase of US$3.24, equivalent to more than 3.24% compared to the month of June 2022.”

The information, offered by the Market Analysis Unit of the General Directorate of Consumer Protection of Honduras, chaired by Mario Castejón, outgoing president pro tempore of the Consumer Protection Council of Central America and the Dominican Republic (Concadeco), who explained that the cost of CBA in Panama is $292.52; Honduras $314.15; Guatemala $435.56; Nicaraguaat $349.02 and Costa Rica has the highest cost with $465.75.

The report also details that during the end of the month of July at the level of the seven countries of the region, the cost of the basic food basket presents an increase in its costs from a 0.47% in Honduras and a maximum of 8.04% in Costa Rica, this is due to price fluctuations in different food products.

In the case of the Dominican Republic, most products have registered a decrease in their prices, including fresh processed chicken, eggs, bananas, beans, rice, margarine, powdered milk, sweet potatoes, sardines, salt, olive oil. , white sugar, yucca, spaghetti, yellow cheese, cream sugar, oatmeal, oil, liquid milk, salami, eggplant and others.
