Barroso and Gomariz, Spanish team in the 2022 adapted sailing world championship

Spain is ready to fight for a new medal in a World Cup. Gabriel Barroso and Juan Antonio Gomariz Solano form the Spanish team that will compete, from tomorrow until Sunday, in the RS Venture Adapted Sailing Class World Championship. The Spanish duo will compete with 35 other teams representing 18 nations in a competition that will take place in the Al-Mussannah facilities, near the capital of the Omani sultanate, Muscat.

The Spanish will defend the world title won last year in the Open category, reserved for crews in which at least one of the athletes has some type of disability. In this World Championship, the national team made up of Barroso and Gomariz has the support of the Universia Foundation, Allen&Overy and the También Foundation. The competition will start this Wednesday and during the first four days regattas will be held in “Round Robin” mode. On the last day, Sunday 27, the best classified will compete in the Medal Race for the final podium.

RS Venture is a current class of World Sailing Paralympic sailboats, which it features a ‘sit down control system’ designed to benefit both the helm and its crew. This World Sailing Championship is a collaboration between RS Sailing and Oman Sail, and was originally to be held in September 2021. But the organizers wanted to ensure a successful registration and it was achieved because the number of registered teams was filled. Dr. Khamis Al Jabri, CEO of Oman Sail, said: “We are honored to have been chosen to host the RS Venture Connect World Championship and have the opportunity to welcome competitors from all over the world to Oman. The championships will serve to support the athletes as we move towards our long-term goal of developing a national parasailing team and continue to support World Sailing’s campaign to restore sailing at the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games″.
