Barcelona win in Kiev and CR7 rescues Manchester United

Barcelona fueled their aspirations to advance to the knockout phase of the Champions League. Bayern Munich and Juventus have already done it.

Ansu Fati scored in the second half the goal with which Barcelona won 1-0 on Tuesday during their visit to Dynamo Kiev.

Fati scored with a first-intention cannon shot near the penalty spot, for the Catalan club to defeat Dinamo for the second time.

The victory allowed Barça to reach six points, two more than Benfica, placed third in Group E and crushed 5-2 in their visit to Bayern Munich, which sealed their passage to the round of 16 with 12 points.

“We are happy, we are there and we are going to go with everything against Benfica. It was an important week, “Fati said in statements to TV.

In another match, Cristiano Ronaldo came back to the rescue of Manchester United with two goals, in a 2-2 draw against local Atalanta. The Red Devils continued in the first place in Group F, tied with Villarreal, who beat Young Boys 2-0. Bergamo’s squad goes back two units.

Also the Argentine Paulo Dybala contributed with a double so that Juventus defeated 4-2 at Zenit of Saint Petersburg. The Italian side was at the top of Group H, already classified with a three-point lead over Chelsea, which won 1-0 in the Malmo fiefdom.

For its part, Lille achieved its first victory in this Champions League, 2-1 over Sevilla and remained in the fight to advance in Group G. Salzburg is the leader, despite losing 2-1 to Wolfsburg, which has five points, the same as Lille.

Barcelona won the victory led by interim manager Sergi Barjuán, a week after the dismissal of Ronald Koeman, who did not survive on the bench the first season without Lionel Messi in almost two decades.

The last time Barça were eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League was in 2000-2001.

Fati, who started a continental game for the first time in nearly a year, scored his third target of the season with a shot in the 70th minute.

On the next date, the Barça team will host Benfica, while Bayern will play on the Dynamo court.

Bayern are back in shape, after two weeks without a coach and after a disastrous defeat.

Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick in the win over Benfica, extending the Bavarian team’s perfect march to four games. The Polish star reached 81 goals in 100 games in the Champions League.

Lewandowski could have gotten the same, but missed a penalty.

The game marked the return of coach Julian Nagelsmann, who missed four games after testing positive for coronavirus.

Bayern and Juventus are the first teams to mathematically secure their qualification this year, with two group stage dates remaining.

Cristiano has scored in each of the matches of this edition of the tournament. But Man U had a disappointing performance, whose hopes remain only thanks to the genius of the Portuguese star and his compatriot, midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

“It was a difficult match. I know that when we play in Bergamo it is always complicated, but we believed until the end, and that makes me very happy, ”said Cristiano, who has accumulated five goals in four Champions League dates since he returned to United.

The passage sealed by Juventus to the next phase was a respite for a club that has made two setbacks in the Italian Serie A, where it is quickly running out of realistic chances of seeking the title.

In addition to the two goals from Dybala, they scored for “Vecchia Signora” Federico Chiesa and Spanish Álvaro Morata.
