Barça players play with Chinese characters on their shirts against Atlético

As announced by FC Barcelona before the match against Atlético de Madrid, the culé team would celebrate the Chinese New Year in a way that is as different as it is special. In a statement issued by the club, Barça reported that “in addition to the audiovisual piece to commemorate the Year of the Tiger in 2022”, This Sunday before the respective matches against Atlético and Eibar, the men’s and women’s teams would wear shirts with the names in Chinese characters and the tiger on the sleeve. In this way, Xavi Hernández’s starting eleven jumped onto the pitch to take the official photograph of the match wearing special shirts with their names in said Chinese characters and with the emblem created by the Club that commemorates the Year of the Tiger.

This is not the first time that the culé team has paid tribute to the Chinese New Year on their shirts during an important match. In February 2019, on the occasion of the Clásico played against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals, the Barça footballers wore their name with Chinese characters below the characters they usually use on the back of the Blaugrana shirt. This was added to the congratulatory video that FC Barcelona made, with Leo Messi, Gerard Piqué, Ter Stegen and Samuel Umtiti as protagonists, to commemorate the Chinese New Year. “With these actions, FC Barcelona wants to congratulate the Chinese fans and fans from the Asian continent in general on the new year, since it is a holiday shared by several countries,” the club added in its statement.
