Barça’s sports planning continues its course and the club has made the departure of Mike Tobey official. The American, who was ending his contract, was one of the expected casualties in the team that Roger Grimau will lead this season. Like Kuric and Sanli, the other two players who ended their links with the club on June 30, Tobey has had to pack his bags.
His next destination will be one of Barça’s rivals in the Euroleague, the Red Star.
Signed last summer as a “market opportunity”, Tobey has had an irregular participation in the team, being used in sections by Jasikevicius. In the decisive games, however, he was one of the players habitually ruled out.. In total, he has played 58 games as a blaugrana (22 in the Endesa League, 31 in the Euroleague, 1 in the Copa del Rey, 2 in the Endesa Super Cup and 2 in the Catalan League) playing both four and five.
His departure further enlarges the gap in the ‘four’ where Barça only has Da Silva after the (still unofficial) departure of Niko Mirotic. This is in fact the number one position to be reinforced by the Barça technical office, which has Juancho Hernangómez as his great objective to be the team’s starting power forward.
