The last game of the regular phase of the Euroleague did not disappoint. A match between Barça and Valencia that left a good taste in the mouth, especially for the Barça fans. In the first place, because on the Palau parquet floor there was a colorful and cheerful match, typical of teams that don’t play much. The show prevailed, the attack over the defense, Abrines shining with a series of spectacular triples. But above all, the full satisfaction for the culé, came from the victory. Barça finishes second in the regular season and their rival in the quarterfinals will be Zalgiris. A week off from Europe, on Sunday Real Madrid visits the Palau, now for the Final Four.
The beginning of the clash was frantic and more than colorful for the spectator, who could appreciate Vesely’s intelligence or Mirotic’s superiority. But also the triples from Valencia or the direction of Chris Jones, who kept Barça at a reasonable distance (17-12). Formidable spectacle in the first period in which the assists were accumulated, and where Barça showed that they wanted to finish second. With their best men, focused and with little turnover at the start, they hurt Valencia. Vesley on the inside and Mirotic from either side. Dubljevic’s entry, and the worse performance of the Barça substitutes, qualified the result (24-21).
Despite the fact that Valencia raised the defensive intensity by one point, Barça took off on the scoreboard. Because of the Barca foreign success, yes, but above all because of the indecent difference in the rebound. After 15 minutes, the Catalans had captured 18. Valencia five. More than eight offensive attacks by Barça that allowed them to reach the maximum difference so far (40-29).
The man in the room, without a doubt, was Álex Abrines. In his 500 game, he hit four consecutive three-pointers, showing everyone present his excellent skills. Good role also from Jokubaitis but even better from Harper and Jones. Valencia, as in the first period, improved a lot at the end of the quarter (51-46).
Valencia maintained the good tone after the break, becoming more and more comfortable, worrying Barça. The azulgranas, however, answered from the triple. And that Mirotic lowered his success rate and Valencia evened things out on the rebound (72-61). But little by little, minute by minute, the game was running out without Valencia being able to overcome the difference in electronic. Nor could Barça break it at any time, but he managed a sufficient advantage not to suffer at the end in a match with little tension.
