Banita Sandhu Backs Deepika Padukone’s Demand for 8-Hour Working Day in Bollywood

Deepika Padukone’s recent exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film “Spirit” has sparked a debate about working hours in the film industry. The actress had reportedly set a condition to work only 6-8 hours a day due to her eight-month-old daughter. Banita Sandhu, known for her roles in “October” and “Bridgerton 3”, has now joined the conversation, sharing her own experience of working long hours early in her career.

Banita recalls being made to work for nearly 18 hours on a film set. She notes that while she initially thought this was normal, she later realized the toll it took on her mental health. In an interview with Screen, Banita emphasized the importance of regulated working hours, citing the example of Hollywood, where actors and crew members are protected by unions that enforce standard working hours.

Banita’s Stand Against Long Working Hours

Banita’s decision to speak out against excessive working hours was not taken lightly. She was aware that challenging producers could lead to being blacklisted in the industry. Despite this risk, she believes that no one should be forced to compromise their mental well-being for a job. “After work, everyone needs a good night’s sleep. It’s a basic need, a right,” she states. Banita’s experience has led her to advocate for better working conditions in the film industry.

Upcoming Projects

Banita is set to appear in “Detective Sherdil”, a film starring Diljit Dosanjh as a detective. The movie is expected to be released on an OTT platform. With her recent projects and upcoming releases, Banita continues to make a mark in the entertainment industry. Her voice on the issue of working hours adds to the growing conversation started by Deepika Padukone’s recent stand.
