Bangladesh-India relations not to be severed: Amit Shah

India’s Home Minister Amit Shah has said that no one can break the friendly relations between Bangladesh and India. He said that India’s political relationship with Bangladesh is very deep. Not only that, the culture, art, language, lifestyle of the two countries are quite similar. Since the birth of the state of Bangladesh, friendly relations have developed between the two countries. Even now, India stands by Bangladesh on many important issues. So no one can break the relationship between the two countries.

He said these things at the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of several projects of ‘Land Port Authority of India (LPI) and BSF at Petrapol land border in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Tuesday.

According to the Bengali calendar, the birth anniversary of world poet Rabindranath Tagore is celebrated today in India including West Bengal. Congratulating everyone on this occasion, the Home Minister said, today is the birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. He is the only person in the whole world, whose song is the national anthem of two countries. I feel fortunate to have come to West Bengal on this day.

The home minister visited Jorasanko, Kolkata’s home of Kabiguru this morning. There he paid tribute to the statue of Rabindranath by garlanding it. After visiting the poet’s birth room, death room, Bichitra Bhavan. He was accompanied by state opposition leader Subvendu Adhikari, state BJP president Sukant Majumdar, BJP all-India vice-president Dilip Ghosh and BJP MP Locket Chatterjee.

He later attended the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of several projects of Land Port Authority of India (LPI) and BSF held at the Petrapol land border. Apart from Amit Shah, Minister of State for Home Nishit Pramanik, Minister of State for Shipping Shantanu Thakur, Leader of the Opposition and BJP MLA Subhendu Adhikari, Land Port Authority of India (LPI) Chairman Aditya Mishra, BSF DG Sujoy Lal Thausen and other top officials of the concerned departments were also present at the event.

In the event, Amit Shah said that in the financial year 2016-17, the trade of 18 thousand crore rupees through the country’s land ports has increased to more than 30 thousand crore rupees today. Petrapol-Benapol port alone has the facility of 11,000 passengers coming and going every day. 600 to 700 trucks pass through this land port every day. After Narendra Modi came to power, the border has improved, connectivity has increased, trade has increased.
