Bangladesh Cricketer Tamim Iqbal Suffers Heart Attack During Dhaka Premier League Match

Bangladesh cricket legend Tamim Iqbal had a close call during a Dhaka Premier Division match. He suffered a heart attack while playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club.

A Sudden Health Crisis

Tamim, who had just played one over in the first innings, felt chest pain and left the ground. He was rushed to KPJ Specialised Hospital, where doctors performed an emergency surgery.

The medical team acted fast after Tamim’s condition worsened upon returning to the stadium. The Mohammedan team physiotherapist had to perform CPR before he was taken back to the hospital.

Swift Medical Action

Cardiologist Dr Moniruzzaman Maruf led the surgical team. Dr Rajib Hasan said, “We can call it a heart attack, and we later did an angiogram and angioplasty to clear the blockage.” The quick coordination between the medical staff and Bangladesh Cricket Board’s medical team ensured Tamim received timely treatment.

Teammates and fellow cricketers, including Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, visited Tamim at the hospital.

A Storied Career

Tamim had announced his retirement from international cricket in January this year but continued to play domestic cricket. He has played 70 Test matches, 243 ODIs, and 78 T20Is, scoring over 15,000 runs across formats.
