Bangladesh Announces New Central Contracts After Champions Trophy

The dust has settled on the 2025 Champions Trophy, and with it, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled its central contract list for the year. A total of 22 players have been awarded contracts, categorized into five distinct grades. The coveted Grade A+ spot has been reserved for the exceptional Taskin Ahmed, while four other players – Najmul Huseyn Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Liton Das, and Mushfiqur Rahim – have been placed in Grade A.

Notably, Soumya Sarkar and Shadman Islam have made a comeback to the BCB’s central contract after a two-year hiatus, starting from 2021 and 2022. Their return is a testament to their perseverance and dedication to the sport. Meanwhile, the team’s captain, Najmul Huseyn Shanto, has been included in the Grade A category, which comes with a monthly salary of approximately $6,600. This amount is a reflection of his leadership skills and the team’s expectations from him.

On the other hand, pacer Nahid Rana has impressed with his performance, earning him a spot in Grade B. He is joined by three new faces – Najmul, Zakir Ali, Tanjid Hasan, and Rishad Hossain – who have been awarded contracts for the first time. These players will receive a monthly salary of around $3,300, categorized under Grade C. Their inclusion is a positive step towards nurturing young talent and building a strong foundation for the team’s future.

However, not all players have been as fortunate. Five cricketers – Shakib Al Hasan, Zakir Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Nayeem Hasan, and Nurul Hasan – have been left out of the central contract list this year. Their exclusion is a reminder that the world of sports is highly competitive, and only those who consistently perform can secure top spots.

The BCB’s central contract list for 2025 is as follows:

  • Grade A+: Taskin Ahmed
  • Grade A: Najmul Huseyn Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim
  • Grade B: Mominul Haque, Taijul Islam, Mahmudullah, Mustafizur Rahman, Touhid Hridoy, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana
  • Grade C: Shadman Islam, Soumya Sarkar, Zakir Ali, Tanjid Hasan, Shoriful Islam, Rishad Hossain, Tanjim Hasan, Mahedi Hasan
  • Grade D: Nasum Ahmed, Khalid Ahmed

The BCB’s move to announce the central contract comes on the heels of Bangladesh’s underwhelming performance in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The team suffered losses against India and New Zealand, while their match against Pakistan was washed out due to rain. As the team looks to regroup and improve, the central contract list serves as a crucial step in identifying and supporting the country’s top cricketing talent.
