Balloon retaliation for ‘attack’, Israeli army bombing Palestinian city

Gaza: The Israeli army has carried out air strikes in the Palestinian city of Khan Yunis, in response to fireballs fired by Palestinians into Israeli territory.

The Israeli military said in a statement that it had carried out air strikes on a Hamas area in the Gaza Strip, in response to a series of fireballs sent into Israeli territory on Tuesday.

The Israeli military says fighter jets struck a Hamas rocket-making workshop in the southern Gaza town of Khan Yunis, as well as a Hamas military compound, but the attacks took place in an urban area.

According to reports, hundreds of Hamas supporters rallied in Gaza on Monday, during which Palestinians released flaming balloons into Israeli territory in celebration of the break-up of six Palestinian prisoners.

It should be noted that two days ago, six Palestinian prisoners escaped from a strong Israeli prison by digging a tunnel overnight. This was the biggest incident of its kind in Israel in decades. Israel has since launched a large-scale operation in the country’s north and occupied West Bank, and the search for prisoners continued on Tuesday.
