Defending champion PV Sindhu started her campaign on a strong note at the Badminton World Championships with a 21-7, 21-9 victory over Martina Repiska of Slovakia on Tuesday. On the other hand, young Lakshya Sen also defeated 15th seed Kenta Nashimoto of Japan 22-20, 15-21, 21-18 to enter the third round. While in men’s doubles, the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Li Xie Huai and Yang Po Suan of Chinese Taipei 27-25, 21-15 in a match that lasted 43 minutes.

World No. 7 Sindhu defeated her non-seeded opponent in just 24 minutes. Sixth seed Sindhu, who last won the title in 2019, got off to a good start and quickly took a 4-1 lead. Rapiska tried to come back with two points, but the Indian stalwart gave her no chance to advance and took an 11-4 lead at the break.
