Azulejos support Berríos and beat Tigres

Lourdes Gurriel Jr., George Springer and Bo Bichette each homered during a four-run second inning drive as the Toronto Blue Jays blew out the Detroit Tigers 10-1 on Friday night.

Such a barrage of home runs provided plenty of support for Puerto Rican José Berríos, who worked with strength for eight innings.

Springer reached base four times, scored three runs and drove in two. Gurriel and Bichette added RBI doubles and the Blue Jays racked up eight extra-base hits through the first six innings.

Toronto has won 12 of its last 15 meetings, scoring six runs or more in 11 of those wins.

Berríos (5-2) allowed one run and five hits in a game that included five strikeouts.

Dominican starter Elvin Rodríguez (0-2) was thrashed for eight runs and as many hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Willi Castro ended the shutout of his countryman Berríos by hitting a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the eighth inning.

For the Blue Jays, the Dominicans Raimel Tapia 1-0, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 5-2 with two runs scored and one RBI, Teoscar Hernández 5-1, Santiago Espinal 5-2 with an RBI. Mexican Alejandro Kirk 4-2 with a run scored and two RBIs. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. 5-2 with one run scored and two produced.

For the Tigres, the Puerto Ricans Castro without an official turn but with a drive, Javier Báez 4-0. Venezuelans Miguel Cabrera 3-1, Harold Castro 3-1.
