Ayuso Breaks Pogacar Record in Intense Training Session Ahead Season Opener

Ayuso 'scares' with its form: destroys a Pogacar record before starting its season

In Sierra Nevada, on the outskirts of Granada, Juan Ayuso is firing on all cylinders. The UAE Team Emirates rider is gearing up for the Classic of Ardeche on March 1, and his training sessions are sending a clear message. Ayuso’s coaching staff recently published a video of him tackling the infamous Purche ascent in Monachil, near Granada, where he is preparing to take on the 2025 season.

Ayuso sends a message from Granada

The video showcases Ayuso’s impressive form as he tackles the grueling climb. In a segment of almost 5 kilometers, he averaged over 20 km/h, completing it in an astonishing 13.22 minutes. What’s even more impressive is that he accumulated more than 3000 meters of elevation gain during a 100-kilometer training ride. This kind of performance is a testament to his dedication and hard work, and it’s clear that he’s ready to make a statement in the upcoming season.

As he prepares to face the challenges of the new season, Ayuso is leaving no stone unturned. His training regimen is designed to push him to his limits, and it’s evident that he’s reaping the rewards. With the Classic of Ardeche just around the corner, Ayuso is looking to make a strong start to the season.

Ayuso’s performance on the Purche ascent is all the more impressive when compared to that of Tadej Pogacar, who attempted the same climb in 2023. Ayuso managed to shave off over a minute from Pogacar’s time, a significant margin that underscores his remarkable form. It’s worth noting that Pogacar was using this climb as part of his training for the Tour de France, following a fall in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege months prior. The fact that Ayuso has eclipsed Pogacar’s time is a clear indication that he’s ready to take on the best in the business.
