Bollywood film “Thamma,” starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, is facing significant box office challenges one week after its release. The horror-comedy, which explores a love story of ghosts, has fallen short of reaching the coveted 100 crore INR (~$12 million USD) milestone.
The film experienced a substantial drop in collections on its first Monday. On its seventh day in theaters, “Thamma” garnered approximately $0.29 million USD (2.43 crore INR). This figure marks a considerable decline compared to its weekend performance.
During its opening weekend, “Thamma” saw stronger numbers. The film debuted with $2.88 million USD (24 crore INR). It then collected $1.57 million USD (13.10 crore INR) on Saturday and $1.51 million USD (12.60 crore INR) on Sunday.
The sharp drop on Monday highlights the uphill battle for “Thamma” to recoup its substantial production budget.
“Thamma” is reportedly the largest production within Maddock’s horror-comedy universe. The film carries a budget ranging from $17.4 million to $18 million USD (145 to 150 crore INR). After its first week, the film remains significantly far from this financial target.
Adding to the competitive landscape, Harshvardhan Rane’s “Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat” also premiered on Diwali, releasing concurrently with “Thamma.” Although “Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat” had a considerably smaller budget, it has already managed to cover its production costs. However, its overall earnings still trail “Thamma.”
