Ax attack on worshipers in mosque

A man accused of attacking worshipers with an ax at a Canadian mosque has been arrested.

According to the foreign news agency, the accused attacked a mosque in Mississauga, Canada with an ax and injured several worshipers. The incident took place during Fajr prayers.

Later, worshipers and others in the mosque arrested the assailant and handed him over to police. According to a statement issued by the administration of the affected mosque Darul Tawheed Islamic Center, the worshipers have arrested the 24-year-old attacker and handed him over to the police.

After initial uncertainty about the motive for the attack, police now say it was a “hate incident.”

The incident has been strongly condemned by the Prime Minister of Canada.

In a statement released on the social networking site Twitter, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said there was no room for such violence in Canada. “I also want to thank the people who were there this morning,” he said.

Noorani Sirali, a man at the scene, said it was a “terrible” experience. He turned around when he heard a scream and saw a man holding an ax and beer spray (which is similar to paper spray). The assailant was trying to use the spray on three worshipers.

He told the Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail: “While he was spraying, the people in the front row realized that something was happening. A young man turned around and dropped the ax in his hand before the attack.

Imam Ibrahim Hindi said in a statement regarding the attacker that “before they could harm the worshipers, several people together bravely stopped them.”

It should be noted that the Muslim community of Canada has been the target of many deadly attacks. In 2017, seven people were killed and eight were injured in a shooting at a mosque in Quebec City.

Four members of the same family were killed in a car crash in London Ontario last year. Police called the incident an “Islamophobia” attack.
