Austria is reeling after a devastating school shooting left at least 10 people dead. The tragedy unfolded at the Dreierschützengasse high school in Graz, the country’s second-largest city.
The gunman, a 21-year-old Austrian man from Graz, opened fire around 10 am local time. Special police units were deployed, and the school was evacuated. Authorities later confirmed the school was secure, with no further threats to the community.
The suspect, who had no prior police record, took his own life in a school bathroom. Initial investigations revealed he was a former student who didn’t graduate. He used two guns, a shotgun and a handgun, both of which he owned legally and had a permit to carry.
As the investigation continues, details about the victims and injured remain scarce. Multiple reports suggest several teenagers were among those killed or hurt. In response, many people have flocked to blood donation centers to help the wounded.
Earlier, KAGes, a health insurance provider in Graz and the state of Styria, reported that two of the 12 injured were in critical condition, while five others were severely injured. The identity of the 10th victim has not been confirmed.
