Australia is going to ban the video app TikTok on all government devices this week. The Chinese-made app is being banned as it poses an unacceptable level of privacy and security risk, Australian media reported on Monday.
According to the report, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has agreed to ban TikTok after discussions with the Ministry of Home Affairs. News from The Straits Times
A government spokesperson said the government has taken the decision because it considers TikTok a risk to national security and privacy.
Earlier, TikTok was criticized for misusing people’s personal information. Western countries have long complained that the Chinese government steals the personal information of users worldwide through this app. Several US universities have banned the use of TikTok from their networks. India and some Asian countries also have restrictions on the use of TikTok.
