Australia has withdrawn its decision to recognize occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

Australia has withdrawn its decision to recognize occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong says that the former prime minister made a decision for political gain, and the Australian embassy will continue to work in Aviv.

The Australian Foreign Minister said that Israel and Palestine should resolve the issue through negotiations.

The Australian Foreign Minister reiterated Australia’s commitment to a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue in which Israel and a future Palestinian state coexist in peace and security within internationally recognized borders.

We will not support any action that undermines the prospect of a two-state solution, with Jerusalem’s status as central to efforts to reach a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, he added.
