Australia and Sri Lanka start with victory at the ICC U19 World Cup

Georgetown. In the ICC U19 World Cup, Australia and Sri Lanka managed to start with a win. Australia beat West Indies by 6 wickets while Sri Lanka beat Scotland by 40 runs in the Pool D match. Australian bowlers outscored West Indies by 169 and made 170 fours from 44.5 overs. Teague Willey scored 86 runs on 129 balls with the help of eight fours. Captain Akim Auguste scored 57 runs on 67 balls for the West Indies.

Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 218 runs from 45.2 overs in the second match. In response, however, Scotland were eliminated for 178 with eight balls to spare. Dunith Vellallage took five for 27. Batting after winning the toss, West Indies got off to a poor start. His three wickets fell by 12 runs in six overs. Following this, Auguste and wicketkeeper Rivaldo Clark added 95 runs for the fourth wicket.

Indian-born spinner Nivethan Radhakrishnan broke the partnership by firing Clarke. He also sent Anderson Mahase and Johan Lane to the pavilion. Captain Cooper Connelly also took three pieces of land. In response, Australia lost ground to Corey Miller early on, but Willie, the second starter, scored half a century. He added 53 runs under the Connolly skipper. Connolly was the victim of Onaje Amori in the 18th.

Willie then added 75 runs with Radhakrishnan (31). In the second match, Sakuna Nidarshan scored 84 runs from 84 balls for Sri Lanka while Chamindu Wickremesinghe contributed 28 runs. Further down the order Ravin de Silva scored 30 runs on 50 balls. Sean Fisher Coog took three wickets for Scotland. For Scotland, no batsman could survive except Jack Jarvis who added 55 runs on 61 balls.
