Miguel Oliveira’s bad luck struck at the wrong time. A shoulder injury has him sidelined for the Americas Grand Prix.
The 30-year-old Portuguese rider crashed in Argentina due to a move by Fermin Aldeguer. Initially, exam results looked okay, but a huge bruise and swelling changed everything. Oliveira’s team decided it was best for him to head back to Portugal.
After returning home, an MRI scan revealed a sternoclavicular joint dislocation and ligament damage. Oliveira explained, “The decision was made to keep my arm immobilized for a while.” This means he’ll sit out the next race.
For now, Oliveira will undergo more tests to monitor his progress. His team’s sports director, Gino Borsoi, expressed regret over the timing of the injury, saying it happened when Oliveira was gaining confidence with Yamaha.
A tough break for Oliveira
The Portuguese rider was making progress, but now he’s facing a tough road to recovery. Augusto Fernandez will replace him in the Americas Grand Prix.
What’s next for Oliveira?
- More exams to monitor his recovery
- Immobilizing his arm to avoid further injury
- A possible return to racing in Qatar, but no guarantees
As Oliveira focuses on his recovery, his team will have to adapt to the change. Fernandez is ready to step in, but it’s clear that Oliveira’s absence will be felt.
