Audi Q3 Sportback Arrives October: Hybrid Powertrains, Advanced Tech

Just when you thought you knew what an SUV looked like, Audi tosses a curveball. The new Q3 Sportback is here, bringing a sleek, coupe-like twist to the popular Q3. This new model landed this Monday, just a couple of months after the third-generation Q3 first showed its face. It will hit the streets with both diesel and gasoline-hybrid engine options.

This SUV coupé stretches out to 4.53 meters, matching its sibling in length. But don’t let that fool you. The Sportback truly stands out with its sharply sloped roofline and a completely redesigned rear end. These changes give it a much more athletic and dynamic look, clearly setting it apart.

Up front, the Matrix LED headlights are a big talking point. For the first time, they use tiny micro LED technology, creating a super detailed light signature. These smart lights also work hand-in-hand with the car’s driver assistance systems, adding a layer of safety and modern flair.

Step inside, and the cabin feels familiar to anyone who knows the compact Q3 SUV. A huge 25-inch display takes center stage, smoothly blending the instrument panel and the multimedia screen. Underneath it all, the car runs on the very latest Android Automotive software. This system packs a ton of connected features and services. You can stream YouTube and Spotify right from the car. There’s even an AI-powered voice assistant ready to help you out.

Audi also gave the center console a fresh look. They moved the gear selector to a small stalk on the right side of the steering wheel. This clever change frees up space for a wireless phone charger. Plus, you’ll find four USB-C ports, two in the front and two in the back, ensuring everyone stays connected. The choice of materials inside is top-notch, with premium wood, fabrics, and even recycled plastics creating a truly refined atmosphere.

You might think that sloped roof would cut down on space, but the Q3 Sportback surprises here. It offers plenty of room inside. The trunk is also quite generous, holding 488 liters of gear. If you slide the rear seats forward, that capacity jumps up to a useful 575 liters, making it practical for everyday life or weekend trips.

What’s Under the Hood

When it comes to power, the Sportback offers the same strong lineup as the standard Q3. The entry-level model features a 1.5-liter TFSI gasoline mild-hybrid engine. This unit churns out 150 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque, paired with a slick seven-speed S tronic automatic gearbox.

For those who still prefer diesel power, there’s a 2.0-liter turbodiesel TDI engine available. It also produces 150 horsepower, but with a robust 360 Newton-meters of torque, also hooked up to the seven-speed S tronic transmission. And for drivers looking to dip their toes into electric driving without going fully battery-powered, the Q3 Sportback e-Hybrid is the perfect choice.

This plug-in hybrid combines a 1.5-liter TFSI engine, delivering 177 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters, with an 85 kW (116 horsepower) electric motor that provides 330 Newton-meters of instant torque. Together, they create a powerful 272 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters, sent to the front axle through a six-speed S tronic gearbox. The e-Hybrid carries a 25.7 kWh battery, which can charge quickly with up to 50 kWh DC power. It offers an impressive electric range of up to 118 kilometers, or even up to 140 kilometers when driving around the city.

The car also comes with a new adaptive suspension system, though it’s an optional extra. This smart setup constantly adjusts to the road conditions and your chosen driving mode, promising a smooth and controlled ride. Driver assistance systems are plentiful too. It features Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, which uses real-time traffic data to help guide the car. There’s even an emergency system that can take control if the driver doesn’t respond to warnings.

The Audi Q3 Sportback is set to arrive at dealerships starting in October. While we don’t have exact prices for all the different versions yet, you can already place your orders.
