Atlético Madrid Fans Sent Back to Madrid After Basque Country Violence Erupts

The Basque police in Vitoria identified 118 Atlético Madrid fans causing trouble early in the morning.

Trouble Starts Early

They were accused of throwing bottles and furniture at a restaurant in an area often visited by Alavés fans.
The police said they stopped an ambush and sent the identified fans back to Madrid, hours before Atlético’s 0-0 draw at Alavés.
They seized Atlético flags, balaclavas, brass knuckles, gloves with metal rings, spray paint cans, and baseball bats.

Local business owners described the scene as “total chaos.”
They claimed the Atlético fans urinated in the area.
The incidents happened at 8:30 a.m., before any Alavés fans arrived.
The Spanish Civil Guard was waiting in Madrid for the two buses carrying the fans sent back by the Basque police.
