Racing and Deportivo Alavés met in the first friendly of the 2024-2025 preseason, with Luis García’s team emerging victorious on penalties in a closely contested match.
Cantabrians Dominate First Half
Racing dominated the first half, with moments of impressive football and creating the clearest chances of the opening 45 minutes. A chance for Saúl and another for Jeremy, both set up by Yeray, were the most promising opportunities for the Racing team.
Second Half Sees Shift in Momentum
The second half was a different story, with Luis García’s men taking control of the match. Although they created few scoring opportunities, they held their ground and took the game to a penalty shootout.
Racing Struggles from the Penalty Spot
Racing struggled from the penalty spot, missing three of their five attempts. In contrast, the more experienced Deportivo Alavés side converted their penalties, securing the I Nando Yosu Trophy and the win in the preseason friendly.
