The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) will give the Athlete of the Year a cash prize amounting to one million pesos, while each of the athletes presented by each federation as the most outstanding will receive a prize of 50 thousand pesos.
The announcement was made by Antonio Acosta, president of the COD, who stressed that the metallic prizes constitute an incentive to the performance of each of these athletes.
“We are recognizing each of our sports heroes with a statuette as a testimony to their work, but we are also providing an incentive,” said Acosta when giving the information.
The great Athlete of the Year award has been nominated MarÃa Dimitrova, from the sport of karate; Bethania De la Cruz, volleyball; Robert Pigozzi, of water skiing and Ana Rosa, of judo.
The announcement of the winner of this award will be made during the Gala and the winner will receive, in addition to the trophy that accredits him or her as Athlete of the Year, a cash prize of one million pesos.
While the winner of the Athlete of the Year award from each federation will be awarded a trophy and 50 thousand pesos.
The COD will celebrate the traditional Grand Olympic Awards Gala next Sunday, starting at 11:00 am, during an event that will take place at the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame.
Acosta informed the event that numerous personalities linked to the sport have been invited.
“This is our great sports festival and we will celebrate it taking all precautions in these times of the coronavirus pandemic,” said the top sports leader.
He expressed that all the provisions have been made so that adequate distancing is observed, in addition, the use of masks will be required.
