At least 3 killed in an attack on a mosque in Afghanistan

The explosion of a mosque in Nangarhar province in Afghanistan left at least three dead. The detonation occurred during Friday prayer inside a temple in the Spin Ghar district. No group claimed responsibility for the attack that occurred in a mosque frequented by the Taliban.

“So far we have three dead and 15 injured”a doctor at the local hospital told the AFP agency. Among the wounded is the imam (person who officiates prayers) of the mosque. The explosive was hidden in a speaker near where the magnet was, according to witnesses who indicated that the detonation occurred when the electrical device was turned on.

The attack occurred on the outskirts of Jalalabad, a city in eastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistani border, one of the strongholds of the Afghan branch of the jihadist group Islamic State. In this province, the local press has reported in recent weeks a series of killings, attributed to conflicts between the Taliban and IS-K fighters.
