At least ten people have died and 30 were injured during a huge fire that consumed a casino located in the Cambodian city of Poipet, very close to the Thai border, early Thursday morning, according to the Police.
The injured, without specifying their condition, have been transferred to different hospitals in the region while the authorities continue with the search operation for possible victims, the Fresh News news portal collects.
In videos, published on social networks by witnesses, a group of people trapped on the roof of the building can be seen, some of whom decide to jump into the void to avoid the flames.
The fire started on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m. local time (3:30 p.m. GMT) in the Diamond City complex and although it has already been largely extinguished, there are still small pockets, the Police told the Cambodian media.
The flames spread rapidly throughout the building, making evacuation difficult.
Rescue teams had to use helicopters to evacuate groups of people who had climbed onto the roof.
Police estimate that hundreds of people were at the hotel and casino at the time of the fire.
