More than 26 years after his professional retirement, Gabriela Sabati will return to the courts to play the doubles tournament “the legends of Roland Garros” to be held from May 31 to June 5 in Paris. At 52, Sabatini, considered the best tennis player in the country’s history, will pair with Gisela Dolko in a tournament that will bring together the best figures in the world.

“I want to thank Roland Garros for the invitation to participate in the ‘Trophée des legends’ 2022. It will be very special to play again in a place full of such beautiful memories with Gisela, whom I admire, respect and love very much. See you from May 31 to June 5 in Paris,” Sabatini wrote on his Twitter account.

“It is with great happiness that I want to tell you that together with Gaby Sabatini we are going to play the Legends Tournament together at Roland Garros. Coming back to Paris after 10 years and playing there again makes my heart burst with joy,” Dulko said on his Instagram.

“Thank you for trusting me, dear Gaby, and agreeing to be my partner. I always admired you and this is a dream come true. I love you very much! Now, let’s enjoy this Grand Slam,” he added.

In the tournament, both will face great former women’s tennis figures such as the Americans Lindsay Davenport, Martina Navratilova, Mary Joe Fernandez and Chanda Rubin; the locals Tatiana Golovin, Mary Pierce, Sandrine Testud, and Nathalie Tauziat; the slovak Daniela Hantuchova; the Swiss Martina Hingis; Croatian Iva Majoli; the Spanish Conchita Martinez and the Italians Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone.

Gabriela Sabatini’s career

Sabatini won 39 titles: 27 in singles and 12 in doubles. She also holds the record for being the one who beat Steffi Graff the most times, one of the best tennis players in history. She announced her retirement from tennis on October 24, 1996 at Madison Square Garden in New York, the city of her greatest triumphs.

In 2000, she received the Konex de Brillante Award for the best athlete of the decade, awarded by the Konex FoundationIn 2006 she was included in the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
