Asusado warns of sugar shortage in the country and asks to investigate causes

The Association of Suppliers of Santo Domingo (Asusado) asked the Government to investigate the causes of the shortage of sugar that has been registered in the country in recent days to avoid further affecting the sector and consumers.

Linny Ramírez, president of Asusado, stated that for more than a week they have been projecting increases in the sack of sugar, since before it was around 3,000 pesos and now it is between 3,350 and 3,400 pesos.

He considered it surprising that there is a shortage, since the mills are grinding and producing sugar normally.

Ramírez called on the Government, especially the director of the Dominican Sugar Institute, Máximo Pérez, to investigate the causes of the shortage and apply preventive actions.

“We call on the Government to investigate why there is a shortage in sugar if manufacturing has been normal. We call for an uprising, since several merchants have told us about this shortage, ”he indicated.

The president of Asusado stressed that sugar is the main product for suppliers and companies of sweets, sweets and beverages.

Asusado is an organization with more than 30 years of existence and is made up of 53 active partners and 68 members from the National District, Santo Domingo and provinces such as Moca, San Cristóbal and La Altagracia.
