ASUS ROG Matrix RTX 5090: 30th Anniversary Extreme Overclocking with 800W Power

The tech world is buzzing, and for good reason: ASUS Republic of Gamers, better known as ROG, just pulled back the curtain on something truly special. At Gamescom 2025, on Tuesday, August 19, they debuted the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 5090 30th Anniversary Limited Edition. This graphics card isn’t just a new piece of hardware; it’s a celebration of three decades of ASUS graphics card history.

This new card brings back memories of the classic ASUS Matrix series, giving it a cool retro-futuristic vibe. It features a chassis made from a mix of copper and aluminum, finished with a sleek metallic look. The design stands out with a circular panel that creates an “infinity mirror” effect. This panel glows with Aura Sync lighting, promising a dazzling display inside any PC case. It’s definitely built to turn heads.

This special edition isn’t just about looks. It’s also a beast when it comes to raw power, especially for overclocking. ASUS packed it with serious cooling tech to handle extreme heat. You’ll find four Axial-Tech fans working hard, plus a copper vapor chamber. They even use a liquid metal compound and the PCB has thick 3-ounce copper layers. This whole setup ensures top-notch thermal control, keeping things cool even when the card is pushed to its limits.

800W of Power

A big technical win for this card is its OC mode, which can draw up to 800 watts of power. It uses dual 12V-2×6 pin connectors. If you pair it with a compatible motherboard that has a GC-HPWR (or BTF) connector, the card can boost its power limit from around 600 watts to a full 800 watts. This extra juice means up to 10% more performance compared to a standard RTX 5090. That’s a noticeable bump for gamers and power users.

For those who love extreme overclocking, especially with liquid nitrogen (LN2), this card has a clever trick. It includes a Memory Defroster feature. This helps recover memory freezes that can happen during intense LN2 overclocking sessions, keeping your experiments on track. Plus, the card is built using the Auto-Extreme manufacturing process. This means high precision and reliability in its creation, ensuring it’s ready for anything you throw at it.

This special edition card will be quite rare. ASUS plans to produce only one thousand units. While they haven’t announced the price yet, expect it to be one of the most exclusive, and likely most expensive, cards in the ROG lineup. If you want one, you’ll need to be quick when it launches.
