Astros rout Brewers 12-2 for eighth win

Yordan Álvarez hit a grand slam between his two home runs and the Houston Astros routed the Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 on Monday for their eighth straight victory.

Alvarez hit a solo shot off Corbin Burnes in the fifth inning and capped a five-run explosion in the sixth with a grand slam off Hoby Milner. The Cuban has 12 home runs this season.

Corey Julks, Martin Maldonado and Mauricio Dubón of Honduras also homered off Burnes (4-4), who had four homers in a single game for the first time in their careers. The 2021 Cy Young winner had allowed just three or fewer home runs in the start since 2019.

The Astros had a season-high 12 runs, 15 hits and five home runs. Alvarez was 3-for-4 for five RBIs and Julks was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

Astros starter Cristian Javier (4-1) struck out five and allowed four hits, one run and one walk in six innings.

For the Astros, the Cubans Yordan Álvarez 4-3 with three runs scored and five RBIs, José Abreu 5-2 with one run scored. Honduran Mauricio Dubón 4-1 with two runs and one towed. The Dominican Jeremy Peña 4-0. Puerto Rican Martín Maldonado 3-2 with two runs and one pushed.

For the Brewers, the Dominican Willy Adames 3-0. Venezuelan William Contreras 4-1.
