Anwar El Ghazi will play for Everton for the rest of the season. The 26-year-old wing attacker is hired from Aston Villa.

The two-time international has played for Aston Villa since 2019, but could no longer count on a base place since the arrival of trainer Steven Gerrard in November.

“Everton is a big club, I can’t wait to start there,” said El Ghazi. “I’m going to work hard, fight for my place in the team and with the boys make sure Everton gets back where it belongs. And that’s a lot higher in the rankings.” The Toffees are 15th in the Premier League. Aston Villa is one place higher.

El Ghazi exchanged Ajax for Lille OSC in 2017. A year later he moved to Aston Villa, where he scored 26 goals in 119 games in 3.5 years. Rafael Benitez is the trainer at Everton.

For last year’s European Championship, El Ghazi was part of the pre-selection of then national coach Frank de Boer, but he dropped out at the last minute. National coach Louis van Gaal announced in September that he would keep an eye on El Ghazi.
