Aston Martin Pursues Improvement with New Front Wing
Aston Martin is continuing to push for improvement in the 2024 Formula 1 season with the introduction of a new front wing for the British Grand Prix. The change comes as the team looks to improve the flexibility of their car at high speeds and comply with the FIA’s stricter aerodynamic regulations.
According to Director of Performance Tom McCullough, the new front wing is just one part of the team’s ongoing development efforts. "We have new front and rear brake elements, so yes, it’s all part of the continuous development of the car," McCullough said during a press conference at Silverstone.
The team’s goal is to add overall load to the car and improve its handling, which has been a weakness for Aston Martin this season. McCullough acknowledged that the team needs to find a better balance between the two. "It’s always a compromise. That said, we have to improve the basic performance of the car to be competitive with the people who are trying to compete."
The new front wing is not the only update planned for Aston Martin in the coming races. McCullough confirmed that the team has many more improvements on the way, including updates for the next Grand Prix in Hungary.
Competition Heats Up with Updates to McLaren and Mercedes
Other teams are also making significant changes ahead of the British Grand Prix. McLaren and Mercedes have both introduced updates to their rear wings in an effort to improve the load in that area. McLaren’s car features up to five new parts focused on the upper plane of the rear wing and the "beam wing," a lower beam wing near the exhaust.
Ferrari, on the other hand, has not introduced any new parts ahead of the race. Red Bull is also making only minor changes, introducing two small updates to the profile of their rear wing.
The competition is expected to be fierce at Silverstone, with multiple teams vying for positions near the front of the grid. Aston Martin will be hoping that their new front wing can help them close the gap to their rivals.
