The Astana team continues to complete its block for the 2023 season and this Monday announced the renewal of the Italian cyclist Christian Scaroni25 years old, until the end of the 2023 season.
In this way, Scaroni will continue to be linked with Astana after a 2022 season that began in the ranks of Gazprom-Rusvelo before leaving the team after being unable to compete due to the war in Ukraine. Since then Scaroni competed in the colors of the Italian flag with which he achieved two stage victories in the Adriatica Ionica Race that allowed him to join Astana in July. With the Kazakh team Scaroni finished sixth in a stage of the Tour of Poland and seventh in the Coppa Bernocchi.
In statements collected by Astana, Scaroni wanted to thank this new opportunity. “The last half of the year, thanks to Astana and the opportunity they gave me, allowed me to prepare well for this step on the World Tour. I think I will be able to integrate into the team as some sports directors and riders already know. During these months I did my best to help the team pursue its goals and this one-year extension means a lot to me. During the time that I have been in the Astana Qazaqstan Team I have found a great atmosphere and support and I can say that I am happy here. It’s a big step for me to play a whole season on the World Tour, but I feel like I’m ready for it. I will try to do my best to continue improving as a cyclist and as a teammate”.
