The Departmental Anti-Drug Brigade of Montevideo conducted a search operation on Friday in two apartments located on Monte Caseros Street in the neighborhood known as The Bleached. This operation was part of a larger effort called the Assyria operation, which aims to dismantle an organization involved in importing and distributing moderate quantities of cocaine and base paste in Montevideo.
During the search, authorities found a significant amount of money, a stolen gun, ammunition, and a cell phone in one of the apartments. The seized items included 977,647 pesos, a gun that had been reported stolen, several rounds of ammunition, and a cell phone. However, the search of the second apartment did not yield any findings. A 47-year-old man was detained during the operation, and it was discovered that he had a criminal record for being part of a criminal association dating back to December 2016.
In a separate operation carried out at a house on Ildefonso GarcÃa Street in Maroñas, the police seized various items, including a Volkswagen Golf, vehicle documents, an aquatic motorcycle, a DVR, and 3,650 pesos in cash. After conducting chemical tests on the Volkswagen Golf, it was determined that the vehicle had been used to transport drugs, which were hidden in a compartment under the steering wheel.
The 2nd shift narcotics prosecutor, Stella Llorente, has ordered further investigation, including driving tests and expert analysis, to be conducted on the seized weapon, vehicle, and cell phone. These efforts are part of the ongoing crackdown on drug-related activities in the area.
