The morning air in Guwahati on Sunday was thick with emotion. Thousands gathered, their hearts heavy, to say goodbye to a voice that had touched countless lives. This was no ordinary farewell; it was a deeply personal tribute to Zubeen Garg, a singer beloved across the region and beyond. Fans lined up outside his home, patiently waiting for his body to arrive. Their eyes were wet with tears. Yet, on their lips, they hummed a special tune: “Mayabini Ratir Bukut.”
This song held deep meaning. It was a melody Zubeen himself had once asked his followers to sing. He told them during a concert, “After I’m gone, all of Assam should sing this song.” Now, these dedicated fans were honoring his final wish. Young people, elders, and women, some awake all night, sang in unison. It felt like the entire region was sharing a moment of sorrow and love, connected through Zubeen’s music. His fans truly showed their devotion.
Zubeen Garg’s life ended too soon. He passed away on September 19, 2025, after a scuba diving accident in Singapore. He suffered a seizure during his dive. The situation turned critical, and doctors could not save him at the hospital.

After the news of his death broke, an old video of Zubeen went viral online. In the clip, he stood on stage, making that special request about his song. Watching it, many people felt their hearts ache. As the story spread, people started traveling from every corner of Assam. They all headed to Guwahati to pay their respects.
The Accident Details
Reports say Zubeen was swimming in the sea with a group of companions. He returned safely from his first dive. However, when he went back into the water, he suffered an epileptic seizure. He had faced these seizures before. This time, however, luck was not on his side.
His wife, Garima Garg, spoke to the media about the tragic event. She confirmed that about eight people were with Zubeen that day. Everyone wore life jackets. But Zubeen decided to go into the sea again, and that’s when the accident happened. His team quickly pulled him out and rushed him to the hospital. He was kept in the ICU for two hours, but sadly, his breathing stopped forever.
Final Preparations in Guwahati
After a post-mortem, Zubeen’s body was flown from Singapore to Delhi. From there, it continued its journey to Guwahati. When his body finally reached the soil of Assam, the atmosphere grew even heavier with sorrow. The state government has been in touch with his family and other groups to arrange the funeral. People will be able to see him one last time throughout the day today before his final farewell. The Chief Minister of Assam also paid his tributes at the Delhi airport when the body arrived.
