The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores) applauded the results of the tourism sector in the first six months of 2023.
According to statements by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, the Dominican Republic reached a historic milestone by receiving more than 5.3 million visitors in this period, which ensures that the goal of 10 million tourists projected for this year will be met.
The executive vice president of Asonahores, Andrés Marranzini, highlighted the joint efforts made by the public and private sectors, which have integrated the successful management of strategies implemented based on the reality of the moment.
He pointed out that the development of public policies through defined estates, as well as the application of measures and the integration of the actors responsible for tourism growth, allow us to palpate through these figures, the macroeconomic contributions that the industry produces.
During a lunch in which he had the honorable presence of the Governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu, Minister David Collado presented the results of tourism performance in the first half of the year.
He highlighted that only in the month of June, the country received the visit of 707,283 tourists, which represents a growth of 21% compared to the year 2018, 20% more than in 2019 and 10% more than in the year year 2022.
“We are pleasantly satisfied with the results presented on the behavior of the first semester of the tourism industry, which go beyond recovery, and that is that, far from the initially proposed goals, we were able to exceed all expectations, which has resulted in the confirmation that the Dominican Republic is the leading destination in the region,” said Marranzini.
ASONAHORES reaffirmed its commitment to promote the sustainable development of tourism in the Dominican Republic and to continue promoting excellence in the services offered by hotels and tourist establishments.
