Asian Cup to be held without Pakistan, new PCB president rejects hybrid model

Once again, the danger clouds have started to hang over the 2023 Asia Cup event. Zaka Ashraf, who is leading the race for Pakistan’s next Cricket Board Chairman, has rejected his organization under the hybrid model. It was decided to organize the next Asian Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In this, 4 matches would be held in Pakistan while the remaining matches of the tournament would be hosted in Sri Lanka.

Zaka Ashraf said during a press conference in Islamabad that I have already rejected this hybrid model. Because I don’t agree with this. The Asian Cricket Council board had decided that if this tournament was to be held in Pakistan, it should be held here.

Now after this statement by Zaka Ashraf, where the organization of the Asian Cup seems to be in danger. At the same time, there is a doubt that the Pakistani team will play in the ODI World Cup which will be held in India later this year. If the PCB does not change position, then the decision can be made to play the Asian Cup without the Pakistani team.

Potential PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf said that all major Asian Cup matches would take place outside of Pakistan. The weak team matches will be against Pakistan, which is wrong. I don’t know which one the board approved first. I see what can happen in such a short time. There are many issues before Pakistan. The World Cup issue is still unresolved. In such a situation, one may have to wait for his schedule. I will make a decision according to the situation only after taking office.
