Cricket Star Falls Prey to Social Media Impersonation
A recent incident involving Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has highlighted the risks of social media impersonation. Ashwin inadvertently replied to a fake account pretending to be Ritika Sajdeh, the wife of Indian captain Rohit Sharma. The cricketer quickly deleted his post upon realizing his mistake.
The Incident Unfolds
The incident occurred following India’s loss to Australia in the Sydney Test, resulting in a 1-3 series defeat. Ashwin responded to a comment from a user named @Nishitha018, who had Ritika’s name and picture on their profile. Believing the account to be genuine, Ashwin wrote a friendly message, only to realize his error when the user jokingly replied.
The user’s response, “I am fine, Ashwin Anna,” prompted Ashwin to immediately delete his message.
Ritika Sajdeh’s Real Social Media Presence
Ritika Sajdeh’s actual social media account, @ritssajdeh, has a significant following, with 2,49,838 followers and 43 users being followed. Her account, created in March 2010, features 602 posts.
Personal Life and Cricket Career
Ritika Sajdeh and Rohit Sharma recently welcomed their second child, Ahaan, in November. Rohit’s absence from the first Test match in Perth due to the birth resulted in an Indian victory. However, his return to the team in the second Test was followed by a decision to opt out of the Sydney Test, which India lost by 6 wickets, ultimately losing the series.
Following the Gabba Test draw, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket. He will now be seen in IPL matches, where he has taken 180 wickets in 212 matches at an average of 29.82 and scored 800 runs, including a half-century.
