Ravichandran Ashwin Returns Home After Retirement

The third Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia ended in a draw due to rain. Following the match, Team India’s legendary off-spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. Ashwin played in the Perth Test match on this tour, after which Ravindra Jadeja replaced him in the Gabba Test match. Now, just a day after his retirement, Ashwin has returned to India and reached his home in Chennai.

Ashwin Receives Warm Welcome at Home

Upon arriving at Chennai Airport on the morning of 19th December, Ashwin was greeted by a crowd of media and fans, as well as his family. Ashwin declined to take photos and was welcomed in a traditional manner at his home, where he was garlanded. Ashwin thanked everyone and went straight inside his house. Throughout his Test career, Ashwin took 537 wickets in 116 matches and scored 6 century innings.

Ashwin on His Retirement

After announcing his retirement, Ashwin stated that he still has some cricket left in him and will continue to play at the club and domestic level. He expressed his gratitude for the memories he collected during his international cricket journey, including those with fellow players Rohit and Kohli. Ashwin was also part of Team India in ODI and T20 formats and was a member of the team that won the ODI World Cup under Dhoni’s captaincy in 2011.
