Asaduddin Owaisi was a force to be reckoned with on the cricket pitch. The politician, who’s now a household name, used to make batsmen sweat with his deadly bowling. He even played under-25 cricket at the university level and shared the field with India’s legendary bowler, Venkatesh Prasad. Recently, a video of Owaisi surfaced on social media, where he was praising Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli, a fantastic player
Virat Kohli recently retired from test cricket and had already bid farewell to the T20 format. Now, he’ll only be seen playing one-day internationals. In a recent interview with PTI, Owaisi praised Kohli, saying, “What a fantastic player! We’ll always miss his cover drives. The way he hit shots over the bowlers’ heads was amazing. He’s a great player, a fantastic player.” Owaisi believes that India has no shortage of talent and more players like Kohli will emerge.
Owaisi’s own cricketing career was impressive. He played in the South Zone Inter-University under-25 cricket tournament and was even selected for the VJ Trophy in 1994. The VJ Trophy was a big deal for university teams back in the day. Owaisi has played with the likes of VVS Laxman and Mohammad Azharuddin, but he humbly refuses to compare himself to these cricket legends. He says he was just a small-time bowler compared to the great Azharuddin. Despite his modest claims, Owaisi’s cricketing past is a fascinating aspect of his personality, showcasing a side of him that’s different from his political persona.
