Arsenal-Tottenham in doubt

The Premier League and Arsenal have started a debate over whether the north London derby, scheduled for Sunday, should be postponed. Mikel Arteta’s squad is weakened due to casualties, both due to injury, COVID-19 and the players who are playing in the African Cup of Nations. The man from San Sebastian had eight absences on Thursday in the League Cup semi-final against Liverpool. At Anfield, Granit Xhaka was sent off, so he will have to serve his suspension on Sunday. Cédric Soares and Bukayo Saka had to be substituted due to physical problems, one at the start of the match and the other at the end.

According to ‘The Guardian’, twelve players from the first team are not available to face Tottenham on Sunday. Premier League rules state that a match suspension may be requested if a team does not have thirteen outfield players and a goalkeeper.

At the press conference on Friday afternoon, Mikel Arteta spoke about the possibility of postponing the North London derby: “We were worried before the Liverpool game, but after playing we had more problems. We have not been able to assess the status of the squad because we could not fly last night. We have arrived at the sports city and now they are treating the boys, so we don’t know”.
