Arrival of American tourists has not been affected by “racist alert”

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, assured that the alert from the United States about suffering alleged racist acts in the Dominican Republic did not affect the arrival of North American citizens to the country in recent months.

Before developing the "Trade Show" of the Dominican Republic in Miami, Florida, where they will present the country to hundreds of travel operators, the minister affirmed that the arrival of American tourists has increased in the first quarter of this year.

"Undoubtedly, when these statements came out, the American market was affected in our country, if the figures given by the foreign minister are true, but I can say that in this first quarter we surpassed that situation"Collado said.

Collado added that both the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Relations have worked to prevent tourism from being affected.

"The American market has responded very strongly, in fact it is part of our strategy at the Ministry of Tourism, to strengthen the American market, due to the number of inhabitants, because it is our natural market, because the flights are shorter and at this time, in February and March, we exceeded the numbers of American foreigners in relation to 2019 pre-pandemic and even in 2022"said the Minister.

In turn, I reiterate that "Currently it is not affecting the arrival of North American tourists to the Dominican Republic in the month of February and March" while ensuring that in April the numbers are increasing.
