A significant development occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Plácido Ellauri neighborhood, where two men were arrested in a truck in the area of Aparicio Saravia and Pedro Bazán. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities found a 45-caliber weapon, which is believed to be the same type used in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old policeman on Monday night in the Marconi neighborhood of Montevideo.
In relation to this case, a minor from Artigas is being sought as a suspect in connection with the crime.
The policeman, who had finished his shift at section 22 at 10 pm, was riding his motorcycle when he encountered a traffic accident near San Martín and Saravia. As he diverted his route, he was ambushed by criminals who shot and robbed him at the intersection of Juan Acosta and Aparicio Saravia.
The victim, who was wearing his uniform, sustained six gunshot injuries and died at the scene, according to police sources News Agency. His body was found next to his motorcycle, and the robbers had stolen his regulation weapon. Five 45-caliber shells were recovered from the scene.
On Tuesday, just a few blocks away from the crime scene, in the Lieutenant Galeano and Machíes area of the Plácido Ellauri neighborhood, a house was shot at. Police found 19 45-caliber and 9-millimeter shells at the scene, which will be analyzed by forensic experts to determine if the same weapon used to kill the policeman was involved.
Two hours later, another shooting occurred on Camino Leandro Gómez and Pedro Bazán, where over 40 45-caliber and 9-millimeter shells were found. The police believe the shooting was intended to demonstrate firepower, as there were no apparent targets.
Additionally, on the same night, a 13-year-old boy was killed, and other minors were injured in a separate incident in the area of Leandro Gómez and Pedro de Mendoza.
