Arozarena shoots a pair of H4s in Tampa victory

Randy Arozarena hit a pair of homers, Jeffrey Springs whitewashed opponents into the sixth inning and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-1 on Saturday, spoiling Adley Rutschman’s debut.

Rutschman, a switch-hitter, was the No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft. MLB Pipeline considers him the top prospect in the majors.

He batted sixth in the order and hit a triple that allowed him to reach the mat in the seventh inning for his first major league hit. He went 1-for-3 with a strikeout and a walk.

Springs (2-1) was making his third start since being promoted from the bullpen. He looked dominant and allowed only one hit, in addition to prescribing seven strikeouts and giving away four walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Arozarena is batting .413 (38-for-92) with 11 homers and 25 RBIs in 23 career games against Baltimore. Three of his five games with more than one home run have been against the Orioles.

The loss went to Kyle Bradish (1-3).

For the Rays, the Cubans Yandy Díaz 3-1 with a run scored, Arozarena 3-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs. The Mexican Isaac Paredes 1-0. Colombian Harold Ramírez 4-1 with an RBI. The Dominicans Vidal Bruján 4-0, Francisco Mejía 4-0.
