Arne Slot Admits Darwin Núñez Could Leave Liverpool for Al Hilal

The air around top football clubs always hums with whispers, especially when the transfer window is wide open. For Liverpool fans, the buzz has been all about Darwin Nunez possibly heading to Al Hilal and the Reds showing interest in Alexander Isak. These rumors took center stage at a press conference before Liverpool’s English Super Cup match against Crystal Palace, set for Sunday at 3 PM. Liverpool’s new coach, Arne Slot, played it cool at first. He didn’t want to spill any beans. But in the end, he did admit that Nunez, their Uruguayan forward, might actually leave the club.

“Nothing is signed yet,” the Dutch coach explained. “But yes, there’s a real chance he could be off.” After this quiet bombshell, the questions quickly turned to Isak. Slot wasn’t having any of it. He shut down those lines of inquiry pretty fast.

“You’re asking too many questions I don’t want to answer,” Slot stated directly. “We never talk about players who aren’t on our team.” He then shifted gears, bringing the focus back to his current squad. “I can talk about Hugo Ekitike, though. We just signed him, and he’s been fantastic so far.” Slot clearly feels good about the players he has. “We are very happy with our current squad,” he added, a proud smile possibly crossing his face. “We have every reason to be happy because we won the championship last season.” He also noted the natural changes in a team. “Some players left, but we brought in new ones. Plus, our young players are doing a great job.”

Slot also made sure to discuss something more serious: the impact of a recent tragedy on Portuguese international Diogo Jota. The coach spoke warmly about the tributes made to Jota. “The tragedy hit us hard,” Slot shared, showing his genuine concern. “But it hit his wife, children, and parents even harder.” He reiterated the team’s shared grief. “It affected us quite a bit too.” Slot spoke with respect for the acts of remembrance. “The tributes that were made were truly moving and impressive.” It seems Slot isn’t just a coach focused on tactics and transfers; he’s also tuned into the human side of the game.
