Armenia: Evacuation Ordered After Horrific Fireworks Warehouse Explosion

Yerevan: After a dangerous explosion in a warehouse of fireworks in a shopping mall in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, authorities have ordered an evacuation in anticipation of more explosions.

According to foreign media, the explosion in the fireworks warehouse happened yesterday in the famous Sarmalo Market of Yerevan, the largest city of Armenia.

Officials say that the death toll in the firework warehouse explosion has risen to six, while 18 people are still missing and search operations are ongoing. Officials say that the missing persons are feared to be buried under the debris.

Rescue officials say that 60 people have also been injured as a result of the explosion.

On the other hand, a few hours after the warehouse blast, the authorities have received threats of bomb attacks on the city metro stations, important military and civilian places, shopping malls and the city zoo as well as the church.

In view of the threats received, the city police has issued an order to evacuate important places.

Authorities are yet to reveal the cause of the explosions at the fireworks warehouse in the market, but officials have ruled out the possibility of a ‘terrorist’ attack and said the incident is under investigation.
