London police say a man was arrested outside Buckingham Palace on suspicion of possessing a weapon, after which a controlled explosion was carried out as a precaution.

According to foreign news agency AFP, the Metropolitan Police say that a suspect was arrested outside Buckingham Palace after he threw shotgun cartridges into the palace grounds.

The police force says that a suspicious bag has been recovered from the possession of the suspect, but according to the police, this incident is not related to terrorism.

Chief Superintendent Joseph Macdonald said in his statement that authorities immediately took the suspect into custody.

According to foreign media, the suspect was detained at 6 pm and a knife was also recovered from him during the search.

The area was cordoned off late Tuesday night and police say officers are at the scene and investigations are ongoing.

The latest incident comes just days before King Charles’ coronation ceremony is scheduled to take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday.

Dozens of foreigners, royals, dignitaries and heads of state are expected to arrive in Britain to attend the event.
